Landscape Design

We approach every landscape design with an open mind, taking in every aspect of the site with our eyes, and listening to all your requests, concerns, and questions. As professionals, it’s our utmost goal to meet your expectations, but never by sacrificing quality. Honesty is always the best policy, and if we feel that a particular request won’t be appropriate or cost-effective, we’ll suggest alternatives or modifications that will work for your tastes and property. We have experience in most design styles, but some of our specialties include:

  •   Japanese gardens
  • o    Midcentury landscape design
  • o    Cottage gardens
  • o    Low water, succulent landscapes

Our design process starts with a detailed site walk-through, where we talk one-on-one about your must-haves and wish list, as well as any concerns you may have about the project or location. We also gather substantial information about your design sensibilities and any material and plant preferences. We also take various photographs and rough measurements of your property, and collect any maps or historical data for the property. Depending on the project size and scope, we’ll provide a computer-drafted site map that indicates proposed structures, hardscaping, plantings, and features such as ponds and fountains, along with detailed plant recommendations, and a cost estimate, within one to six weeks.

Landscape Contracting

We can quickly mobilize the best landscape contractors in the area, and all of our contractors have been carefully vetted to meet our high requirements for excellent customer service, superior workmanship, a positive safety record, and a solid history of dependability. Our in-house contractor, who has 35 years of experience in the field, manages all landscape construction jobs to ensure they conform to our rigid standards.

Sustainable Landscaping

Many landscape companies can create pretty designs, but our team instinctively knows how to balance beauty, with eco-consciousness, and a plan for long-term success. We think about what our designs will look like 20 years down the road, and if they will still meet the original project objectives. We understand that environmental and climatic conditions are continuously in flux and that what works for one wet summer, could be disastrous for several summers of intense heat, and we plan your design and plantings accordingly.  We consider your property’s water source, irrigation system, drainage patterns, topography, and potential for soil erosion. We take note of existing plant species, and propose removal of invasive plants and inclusion of native vegetation, whenever feasible and possible. We even consider the effect our proposed design will have on the existing wildlife. And, we consider the ease, accessibility, and economics of maintaining the proposed design over the long haul.

Planting Plans

Not all landscapes and landscape designs are created equally. We’ll never sell you a full-scale design with an architect, when what you really need is advice on plant species with our horticulturist. Let our talented plant experts check your soil, sun exposure, and water conditions, and match them up with a reliable and beautiful array of plants that will thrive well, in a configuration that will meet your aesthetic ideal, for many years to come.

Hardscaping

Hardscaping portions of your landscape with brick, flagstone, rock, and a variety of other materials is important for many reasons, including accessibility, strength, drainage, and aesthetic appeal. However, it also needs to be done in moderation, and with consideration for overall landscape appeal and purpose. If you wanted a concrete jungle, you’d hire a cement truck, right? We can help you create hardscaping that balances with the natural environment, and doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb. We source most of our materials locally, and select only the finest quality. We also work with a variety of eco-friendly products that channel water into the ground, recharging the groundwater table, to reduce runoff from your property and control erosion. These products can be as strong and durable as traditional hardscaping materials, more versatile, and even less expensive.

Water Features and Garden Structures

Ponds, fountains, gazebos, and other structural features are the focal point of a well-balanced landscape, so they should compliment the style and sensibility of the overall design. Proper integration of these features may also require the attention of a licensed, landscape architect, especially for more complex designs or sites. Our landscape architect has designed for a wide range of residential, commercial, and public projects, and can provide the necessary experience to get the job done accurately, safely, and economically.
